Gwenny has found her permanent sanctuary at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary, where she has befriended the 9 other hens and 3 roosters and is living happy days. She has not shown any signs of aggression or trouble with her leg since coming here so we have high hopes for her continued contented life here with us.

This stunning Silver-laced Wyandotte was taken in by her current custodian because she was facing “the chop” at her former home due to not laying enough eggs.  Gwenny was saved from that untimely outcome but now she has to find another home again as things have got a little unmanageable at her current home.  The problem is, Gwenny is very pretty but she’s also VERY bossy and has taken to belting up the much smaller bantams that live with her.  It’s a shame because she is such a friendly girl to humans, but with other hens and even roosters, she can be quite the bully.

Gwenny does suffer a little from a sore leg that flares up if she has to jump down from too high platforms or perches, so her carer recommends that she have several perches at different heights that allow her to step up and down gradually to avoid any further aggravation.  Due to this girls desire to be Top Chick.. she would need a home that has no other hens or only poultry that are same size or larger breed than her as she will hurt anyone smaller than she is.

If all this is taken into consideration, Gwenny would make a lovely companion – she is a very pretty girl, she’s friendly and tame, she comes when called and simply loves people.  She is also now laying an egg every day and is not a fussy eater, she eats a lot (befitting her big size) and apart from her weak leg, is a sure and healthy girl.

  • An adoption fee of $30 applies, this will be payable to Animal Actionist Ltd – our registered farm animal rescue charity – to help us to continue to help animals find great homes.

A BIG thank you to 100 Loyal Faces for some of the stunning photos featured below!

Please fill in our EXPRESSION OF INTEREST form if you would like to offer to adopt.

* Animal Actionist promotes non breeding of all rescued animals, particularly in the interest of breaking the cycle of unwanted farm animals (most of them males,) that find themselves with little time to find a new home and end up in danger of slaughter. All farm animals adopted via Animal Actionist are intended as family pets, and therefore the same rules that apply for non breeding of cats and dogs, applies to these animals too. If you apply to adopt you thereby agree and are bound to not use these birds for breeding.

All suitable applications are forwarded to the current custodian for consideration, and you will be contacted as soon as possible to discuss your offer further. Please understand that it may take a few days for us to respond to you depending on the amount of applications received, and it is never a case of first come, first served with animal adoptions, as we have to do our best to locate the absolute best homes for the animals. If you have any problems or further queries, please contact Animal Actionist direct via the “contact us” link. Thank you so much for caring for animals.
