We were unable to find a suitable home for Archie in time so he is staying at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary for now.  It turns out that Archie has a few bad habits that makes him unsuitable for rehoming at this point – he plays rough and is prone to nipping. We need to work on these issues with him before he can be placed into a permanent adoptive home. We will advertise him again once he is ready – watch this space folks.

Time is running out for Archie to find his perfect home.. this is so sad as he is a really beautiful boy and we would love nothing more for him (and the people who have fallen in love with him) to find a safe haven for the rest of his days.  He had a visit from a very special lady a few days ago who took some beautiful photos to help us showcase just how special he really is. Kate was so taken by Archie she wrote a few words about her meeting with him…

“From the minute I arrived to photograph Archie, a smile didn’t leave my face. Between his little snorts of joy, cries for attention and hilarious antics, not unlike a playful puppy dog, how could you frown?

Archie put on show after show of “feed me, look at me, I’m going over here, I’m going over there”. It was a fun-filled and far too short hour that I got to spend with him. He loved his food, his belly rubs, and just being with people. He is bursting with character, and deep eyes that show you his precious soul.

If I had the space at home, and didn’t arrive in a sports car for Archie’s photo shoot, I can assure you I’d have driven off into the sunset with him. I know I would have had to fight off the Ranger though, she is smitten too!”

We can’t put it any better than that… Archie is a charmer and would make a wonderful companion for the right home.  Please read his original story and full details below.

Original Story:

Poor little Archie has found himself behind bars after being surrendered to the pound. He’s a real cutie-pie and is now looking for a wonderful home to call his own.

Archie is playful and has spent most of his short life (he’s about 6 months old) in the company of a dog, so he definitely needs to go to a home where he will have companionship from other animals and/or a VERY attentive human. 🙂 He does have one small vice which is probably attributed to his play time with a canine… Archie sometimes nips at your heels when you walk in front of him. The good news is that pigs are SMART, so with the right training this naughty behaviour can be “un-learnt”. Therefore, Archie would best suit a carer with a firm yet gentle hand to help him to learn good manners – he will learn quickly from a skilled and confident trainer.

His new home will need to be in a Shire that allows the keeping of pigs and should have a Property Identification Code (PIC) registered with the Dept of Agriculture. He would best suit a property with at least a few acres to be able to accommodate his growing size – we estimate he may grow to somewhere around 100kgs; so a large paddock, a cool wallow and shade for summer, and secure sheltered pen for winter are a must. Pigs love to dig and Archie is no exception… his new family would need to be understanding of this and allow him to enjoy this fun and stimulating activity.

Archie is desexed, vaccinated and vet health checked.

Adoption fee: $100

We hope you can help us to help this lovely pig… please fill in the Expression of Interest form below if you would like to know more, or offer to adopt. We are also looking for anyone who may be able to foster Archie if we cannot find a good home in the short term. If you think you can help with fostering please fill in the form below and write in the notes about your fostering offer.

A huge THANK YOU to Animal Antics Photography for the gorgeous photos featured here.

Please fill in our EXPRESSION OF INTEREST form if you would like to ask questions or offer to adopt.

* Animal Actionist & New Homes For Rescued Farm Animals promotes non breeding of all rescued animals, particularly in the interest of breaking the cycle of unwanted farm animals (most of them males,) that find themselves with little time to find a new home and end up in danger of slaughter. All farm animals adopted via Animal Actionist are intended as family pets, and therefore the same rules that apply for non breeding of cats and dogs, applies to these animals too. If you apply to adopt you thereby agree and are bound to not use this animal for breeding.

All suitable applications are forwarded to the current custodian for consideration, and you will be contacted as soon as possible to discuss your offer further. Please understand that it may take a few days for us to respond to you depending on the amount of applications received, and it is never a case of first come, first served with animal adoptions, as we have to do our best to locate the absolute best homes for the animals. If you have any problems or further queries, please contact Animal Actionist direct via the “contact us” link. Thank you so much for caring for animals.

I am happy to foster this cutie until a permanent home becomes available. We have a 7 month old desexed piggy called a Crackles and live in serpentine… The run is fully fenced with a secondary lower bracing to prevent escaping. There are rocks, trees, a late paddling pool and we run water in there every couple of days so crackles can have a good wallow. Our piggy is raised vegetarian and fed only kitchen scraps plus oats/grain occasionally soaked in divetelact. Our piggy currently has a graze in our yard out the back (1/4 acre alone) with our rescue dog and my Dobermann girl. As Archie gets along with dogs this would suit him perfectly.

Hello! Attaching a photo is not a required field on the form, so we’re not sure why you can’t move forward from there. Did you scroll down past the area for photo uploads? There is a “submit” button there. Did you press that and get an error message?
