UPDATE: We were unable to find the right home for this special needs girl so she has now moved in to Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. Monaro will be safe and live out her days in the company of other rescued animals. Lucky sweet girl.

This gorgeous mare is looking for a very special someone who will allow her to be who she wants to be; a retired grazing pony! Her ideal home would have food, shelter, space and love offered freely, and perhaps some other animals to hang out with for companionship. In exchange Monaro offers good behaviour, corteous manners, and her loving trust to the right person.

Monaro is not being rehomed lightly – due to circumstances beyond the control of her friend Louise, they have both found themselves in a position they would rather not be in.  That’s what makes it so very important that Monaro goes to the perfect home for her, that will meet her needs and care for her as well as she deserves. Here’s what Louise has to say about her story:

Monaro came to our family about 5 years ago. She came to be in our care through a friend who had heard about her being abandoned on a large property that was no longer being occupied.  She was a very happy pony but required a little TLC.  She soon made herself at home with the other animals and became best friends with our other horse.

Monaro is a very sweet natured pony, she is very easy to handle, she loves children and is great with other animals. Monaro was never saddle broken but she as received lots of ground work training with us. She is not pushy at all, is great for the farrier and the dentist and even the vet.

Monaro is prone to founder and has had colic once. She holds her weight very well and through a balanced diet we have never had any further concerns with her foundering. We are seeking a new home for Monaro due to the sale of our farm and family health reasons.  We really hope a family will be able to give this beautiful girl a wonderful home and continue to love her as much as we do.”

Could Monaro find love with you and your family? Here’s a quick list of things you need to know about her…

NAME: Monaro

AGE: Approx 20 years plus

BREED: Welsh Cross

DESEXED: No (Monaro is not offered as a breeding mare)

TEMPERAMENT:  Very friendly, quiet, loves to be in the company of others, loves cuddles. Very sweet natured.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Monaro needs a balanced diet to protect her from colic and founder. She does not require another horse as a companion but it would be nice if she is with other animals. Not to be used as a riding pony.

* Animal Actionist promotes non breeding of all rescued animals, particularly in the interest of breaking the cycle of unwanted farm animals (most of them males,) that find themselves with little time to find a new home and end up in danger of slaughter. All farm animals adopted via Animal Actionist are intended as family pets, and therefore the same rules that apply for non breeding of cats and dogs, applies to these animals too. If you apply to adopt you thereby agree and are bound to not use this animal for breeding.

All suitable applications are forwarded to the current custodian for consideration, and you will be contacted as soon as possible to discuss your offer further. Please understand that it may take a few days for us to respond to you depending on the amount of applications received, and it is never a case of first come, first served with animal adoptions, as we have to do our best to locate the absolute best homes for the animals. If you have any problems or further queries, please contact Animal Actionist direct via the “contact us” link. Thank you so much for caring for animals.
